Meet Anti-Diet Mama

Empowering mamas to break the cycle of restrictive eating and body hatred.

Hi, I’m Sammie.

I became a Registered Dietitian to help people to have a better quality of life by improving their nutrition. To help people live longer, happier, and healthier.

Over the last decade, my understanding and approach to nutrition has changed drastically — especially as my identity shifted from collegiate athlete, to graduate student, to young professional, and now to mama.

My time in a weight loss surgery clinic has taught me how important nutrition education is and how detrimental diet culture is to our wellbeing. I have learned that emotional eating and negative food relationships can be fixed if given the time and space to work and heal. I have learned that I can teach you how to honor your body and give you the freedom to enjoy food — and I have learned that is my passion.

Being Anti-Diet is not Anti-Health.

Anti-Diet means rejecting diet culture — an industry that profits from making women feel inadequate. As a dietitian, I am pro-health, which includes balanced nutrition, movement, and stress and sleep management. I focus on all aspects of health that are within your control to help you find sustainability and flexibility in your daily life. By taking care of ourselves holistically, we model what it means to prioritize health for our children.

Growing up with women who were constantly dieting has made an impact on me in many ways.

I have personally witnessed diet culture wreak havoc on the lives of those closest to me and many others. The constant cycle of restriction, losing a few pounds, plateauing, and giving up because it’s too hard — the billions of dollars invested in the diet industry — the tumultuous marketing towards women — the idea that you are either succeeding or failing — all to make women’s entire lives a constant battle of self worth based on how much of their weight they can lose.

It saddens me to keep hearing “I can’t have that”, “that’s bad for me”, and “oh, I wish I could, but I’m over my points for today”. I am tired of seeing people suffer and not enjoying life because of their diet.

Our children absorb these messages and can develop the same negative relationship with their bodies and food that their parents have.

If you are tired of the restriction and failed diet attempts…

If you are interested in improving your family’s health…

I am here for you.

I can help you to stop dieting. I will help you to mend your relationship with food and your body. I will help you to feel confident about feeding your family.

I incorporate the following values and principles to enrich your unique nutrition journey:

Intuitive Eating

Eat when your body tells you to eat (aka hunger) and stop when your body tells you to stop (aka satiety). Honor your body’s signals. And, how biology and emotion play into your eating habits. Trust your body and ignore diet culture and food rules.

Food Freedom

Pick a food you want to eat. Eat it. Enjoy it. Move on with your day. #noregrets

Body Acceptance

Work on respecting your body as it is today. Not tomorrow. Not 10 pounds from now. Recognize your body does amazing things for you. Work with your body to improve health despite the number on the scale.

Weight Inclusivity

No weighing. No judgements. I have made the Health at Every Size pledge to respect body diversity, to value others’ experiences, challenge scientific and cultural assumptions, and to practice/teach compassionate self care.

Mend your relationship with food and feel more confident in your body.

Improve your health. Improve your family’s health. Ditch the diet. Get in touch and let’s chat!
